Bhakri (Indian Flatbread)

As this is MY FIRST OWN blog, I will not make it more complicated. I would like to add simple easy to make recipes. In fact, all the recipes posted here will be simple in procedure. Also, I will try to keep the ingredients also very simple and easy to find. We have purposely named the blog as “Ghar ki Rasoi” because it will mostly contain items that are made at my Ghar.
Therefore, lets start with a wholesome meal of Bhakhri (Indian Flatbread)
Bhakri is such item which is made every other day in my Ghar. People from gujarati households might agree with me. And it’s such a delicious and healthy food (though it had little more fat than rotli) plus it tastes yummy when its Hot and served along with Ghee and Athanu (pickle or aachar). Some Gujarati households eat bhakri everyday for their breakfast. So lets see the recipe:
It will serve 3 people if they eat 3 bhakris each
Ingredients:
Wheat Flour
3 cups
Cooking Oil
3-4 tablespoon
Salt
For Taste
Jeera
1-2 spoons
Water
As required

Procedure:
Take wheat flour in a large THALI. Add oil, salt and jeera. Mix properly till all the oil is mixed with the flour. After that, add water as and when needed but see to it that the dough doesn’t become soft. It should be hard enough that you can roll out a bhakri without using any flour.
After dough is prepared, give 10 minutes resting time. This will help all the dough absorb the oil and water properly. After 10 minutes, again knead the dough well. Make 9 portions of the dough and roll out as bhakhri. It should be thicker than roti. Place the bhakri on hot clay tawa. This will give a nice taste to the bhakhri. Cook well on both sides. Keep pressing lightly the edges and the middle portion of bhakri as it should cook from all sides.
Take in a plate. Apply ghee when hot. It can be eaten when sizzling hot. It can be eaten with any vegetable. I feel it tastes best with mango pickle. What say?
